Associate Software Engineer

Job Description

Copper, founded in 2018, is seeking a skilled Backend Engineer to join its Core team in London. Copper is building the standard for institutional digital asset infrastructure with a focus on custody, collateral management, and prime services.The Backend Engineer will be responsible for building and maintaining foundational microservices that power critical parts of Copper's platform, including authorisation, invoicing, notifications, and user management. The role involves working on systems that directly support and secure the entire product ecosystem, enabling internal teams and delivering seamless, secure experiences to users.Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain scalable and reliable backend services in a microservices architecture.
• Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code.
• Collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers and QA engineers on new features.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and debugging to maintain quality of our products.
• Ensure high availability, performance, and security of the services you own.
• Support and solve problems from clients and stakeholders.

Requirements:

• Experience building software with a JVM language: Scala, Kotlin, or Java.
• Familiarity with relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs.
• An understanding of the critical importance of testing, well-versed and able to build automated tests of server-side code.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Capacity to adapt in a fast changing environment and being able to work with elements of a tech stack that you haven’t faced before.
