Sony Music is seeking an A&R Director for RCA China, based in Shanghai. This role is pivotal in supporting and implementing A&R strategies, fostering collaborations with artists and label partners, and overseeing artist development and recording projects.

The role involves:

  • Identifying developing and established artists and label partners for RCA Greater China.
  • Managing short and long term goals of the label closely.
  • Overseeing the production process and artist engagements.
  • Tracking and coordinating production projects, integrating admin work, and updating release schedules.
  • Maintaining A&R workflow, tracking versions, files, and assets.
  • Facilitating communication between artists, producers, and teams.
  • Tracking budget and managing procurement and invoicing.
  • Liaising with internal teams to discuss A&R strategy.
  • Overseeing the recording process of RCA’s artists.
  • Providing creative feedback and identifying hit singles.
  • Attending shows and showcases.
  • Managing the administrative and deal making process.
  • Formulating deal prospects with Finance and BLA.
  • Setting company priorities and release timelines.
  • Seeking creative opportunities for artist exposure.
  • Providing A&R direction and support on projects.
  • Collaborating with various label departments.
  • Providing artist management support.

Requirements include:

  • Undergraduate degree required.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in the music industry.
  • Strong relationships with artists, songwriters, producers, and industry resources.
  • Expertise in songwriting and production is a plus.
  • Knowledge of recording, production, creative, legal, copyright, and music publishing.
  • General knowledge of digital marketing, social media, content, and streaming.
  • Open-minded with passion for music across all genres.
  • Proactive self-starter and collaborative team player.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel and attend showcases.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, combined with strong interpersonal skills across cultures.
  • Fluency in Mandarin and English.
