Job Description

SoundCloud is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead its Anti-Abuse Systems team. This team is responsible for maintaining a safe, authentic, and fair environment on SoundCloud's platform. The Engineering Manager will guide a team of engineers and ML practitioners in building scalable abuse detection pipelines, real-time classifiers, and content moderation tooling.

The role involves technical leadership, people management, and cross-functional collaboration. The ideal candidate enjoys solving adversarial problems and delivering impactful products.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of backend and machine learning engineers.
  • Own the end-to-end architecture for abuse prevention pipelines.
  • Set and drive the technical strategy and roadmap.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Support team members through mentorship and career development.
  • Maintain high engineering quality standards.
  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies and guide estimation and prioritization of backlogs.
  • Take pragmatic decisions around scope, design, and trade-offs.
  • Communicate proactively across the organization.

Requirements:

  • Strong technical lead with early engineering management experience.
  • Hands-on experience as a software developer.
  • Knowledge of abuse prevention, content moderation, or fraud detection.
  • Experience with detection systems, rule-based pipelines, or ML models.
  • Engineering background in backend architecture, data platforms, microservices, or cloud.
  • Strong collaboration skills.
  • Track record of hiring, mentoring, and growing diverse technical teams.
