bit.bio, an award-winning spinout from the University of Cambridge, is seeking a Laboratory Support Technician. This role is crucial for ensuring smooth day-to-day laboratory operations, allowing scientists and technical staff to work efficiently in a compliant and safe environment. The Laboratory Support Technician will report to the Laboratory Manager and will be responsible for equipment upkeep, consumable stock levels, reagent aliquoting, waste management, and general laboratory maintenance.Responsibilities include:
- Operating within Containment Level 1 and 2 laboratories, adhering to safety protocols.
- Preparing tissue culture aliquots, broth, and agar using aseptic techniques.
- Providing autoclaving and washing-up services, and coordinating lab coat laundry.
- Managing laboratory waste disposal.
- Supporting daily laboratory operations, including gas checks.
- Collaborating with Facilities for equipment maintenance and calibration.
- Overseeing stock and lab store management, including stock checks.
- Maintaining a chemical inventory.
- Upholding high standards of laboratory cleanliness and organisation.
- Preparing and maintaining stock solutions.
- Conducting weekly cleaning of biological safety cabinets.
- Troubleshooting instrumentation issues.
- Supporting the development and maintenance of SOPs and Risk Assessments.
- Maintaining up-to-date documentation.
- Acting as a key point of contact for the scientific team.
- Assisting in the implementation and promotion of Health & Safety practices.
- Adhering to all QEHS policies and procedures.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or equivalent experience.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Proactive and self-motivated.
- Proven work experience in a support role within a commercial or research laboratory environment.
- Practical experience in aseptic techniques.
