Homeward Health is seeking a Risk Adjustment Coding Educator to improve healthcare in rural America. The Risk Adjustment Coding Educator will educate clinicians and support staff on Medicare & Medicaid risk adjustment coding processes. This role aims to improve the accuracy of diagnosis coding, directly affecting the quality of care and appropriate reimbursement.Responsibilities include:
  • Maintaining hands-on experience with medical coding for risk adjustment (Medicare & Medicaid).
  • Supporting ongoing audit accuracy and compliance efforts.
  • Delivering individualized and group training sessions to providers focused on documentation improvement and coding accuracy.
  • Translating CMS guidelines and risk adjustment policy updates into practical, provider-facing education materials.
  • Partnering with clinical leadership to analyze trends, identify gaps, and drive documentation improvement initiatives.
  • Providing feedback and coaching to clinicians and staff to reinforce compliant coding practices.
  • Acting as a bridge between coding, compliance, and provider relations teams to resolve documentation and coding challenges.
Requirements:
  • 5 years of experience in medical coding, healthcare education, or a related field, with a strong focus on Medicare risk adjustment.
  • Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC) certification.
  • In-depth knowledge of Medicare & Medicaid risk adjustment methodology and coding guidelines.
  • Strong understanding of ICD-10-CM diagnosis coding.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Knowledge of healthcare compliance, regulations, and billing practices.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
