Argo Group is seeking an Actuarial Data Lead to provide critical support for its actuarial team. This role involves directing a team of data professionals in managing and maintaining actuarial data for pricing and reserving functions. The ideal candidate will lead the strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation, and coordination of information and technology systems for the Actuarial department.
  • Leads the development, maintenance, and enhancement of analytics, data management, modeling analyses, and ad hoc work products into system-based solutions.
  • Participates in projects that support the analysis, evaluation, and modeling of potential solutions, analytical methods, and processes.
  • Creates data sets by combining multiple complex data sources into a suitable format for analysis.
  • Leads the team in the architecture/design and building of new automated solutions and procedures.
  • Trains users of new and enhanced system solutions, tools, and advanced data.
  • Acts as liaison for the Actuarial department on enterprise-wide information technology discussions.
  • Maintains current knowledge of trends and products in the system technology industries.
  • Acts as subject matter expert on internal data sources and data collection applications.
  • Be a steward of data quality at Argo.
  • Explore alternative internal and external data sources.
  • Collaborates in a team environment with Actuarial, IT, Claims, Finance, and Underwriting colleagues.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or Finance related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of P&C experience and broad overall knowledge of P&C Insurance.
  • Understanding of common actuarial methodologies.
  • In depth analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Experience with multiple coding languages (SQL, Python, R, VBA, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to document databases, formalize data processes, and develop self-service reporting tools.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to management and other functional areas.
  • Ability to interact and work within a team environment.
  • Proven ability to lead teams to complete concurrent projects on time with tight deadlines.
  • Experience with managing multiple monthly processes in Production and Development areas, including a ticketing system for bugs/enhancements.
