Senior Backend Engineer - Reporting and Insights

Job Description

SoundCloud is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join its new Reporting & Insights Team. This role focuses on building and maintaining systems that handle the revenue side of subscriptions and all purchases across iOS, Android, and web platforms. The engineer will work closely with Backend, Accounting, and Finance teams to provide technical expertise for revenue-related financial systems and integrations. They will be building a new system that ensures seamless and secure data flow for revenue tracking and reporting.Responsibilities include:

• Designing, developing, and implementing the backend infrastructure necessary to integrate with payment processors, revenue systems, and data pipelines.
• Working closely with the Accounting and Finance teams to understand their requirements and ensure technical alignment with financial reporting needs.
• Developing and maintaining data transformation and validation processes to ensure accurate and consistent revenue data transfer between vendors, internal systems, and ERP systems.
• Building and managing APIs and webhooks to facilitate data exchange between payment processors and existing systems.
• Refining and optimizing existing data pipelines to accommodate the integration of vendors and enhance overall revenue data processing efficiency.
• Working with the Data/Insights team to ensure revenue data is properly reflected in overall data stores.
• Identifying and resolving complex issues in data flow and system integration to ensure data integrity.
• Developing and implementing monitoring and alerting systems to ensure the ongoing stability and reliability of the revenue reporting system.

Requirements include:

• Proven experience in designing and implementing complex backend systems.
• Understanding of revenue recognition principles and processes, and experience working with revenue management systems.
• Strong proficiency in building and integrating REST APIs and webhooks.
• Experience in integrating third-party systems and managing data transformations.
• Experience in working with big data and databases like BigQuery to help compile and visualize reporting data.
• Experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, K8s) and their application in scalable data systems.
• Ability to understand and work with financial data and collaborate with non-technical finance teams.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
• Experience with monitoring and alerting systems, with a commitment to ensuring data accuracy and system stability.
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and ensure high availability and reliability of critical revenue systems.
