Technical SEO Manager

Job Description

Fortune Media is seeking a Technical SEO Manager to enhance its organic search presence across various content types. The role involves developing and executing strategies to improve Fortune's visibility in search engines, optimize site performance, and create a robust SEO strategy that emphasizes authority, adaptability, and technical proficiency.

The Technical SEO Manager will work with product managers and developers to implement SEO-friendly templates, plugins, and custom fields. They will also troubleshoot technical issues related to rendering, indexing, and mobile responsiveness on WordPress.

Responsibilities:

• Partner on a taxonomy overhaul to streamline site architecture.
• Monitor Core Web Vitals (CWV) and page speed performance.
• Provide direction for consolidating and optimizing XML sitemaps.
• Expand schema markup to enhance visibility in SERPs and AI-generated summaries.
• Audit and improve metadata and sitelinks to boost CTR and keyword rankings.
• Strengthen Fortune’s Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness (E-E-A-T) signals.
• Adapt strategies for AI agents like ChatGPT.
• Collaborate with product managers and developers to implement SEO-friendly templates and plugins.
• Troubleshoot technical issues related to rendering, indexing, and mobile responsiveness on WordPress.
• Ensure seamless integration of SEO best practices into content publishing workflows.
• Develop internal recirculation strategy to increase pageviews per session and reduce bounce rates.
• Partner with editorial teams to align content production with SEO opportunities.
• Advise product/engineering teams on technical requirements for AI-ready site migrations, CMS updates, or new features.
• Report on KPIs and AI-specific metrics to stakeholders.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of hands-on technical SEO experience, preferably in media or publishing.
• Proven track record in optimizing Google Discover/News traffic and evergreen content performance.
• Advanced proficiency with tools like Screaming Frog, Google Search Console, GA4, Looker & Looker Studio, Lighthouse, and PageSpeed Insights.
• Strong knowledge of HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and schema markup.
• Familiarity with AI-driven SEO tools.
• Background in news/media SEO.
