Job Description
GitLab is seeking a Senior Accessibility Engineer to join its team and play a pivotal role in enhancing the accessibility of the GitLab product and Pajamas Design System. This is a new role within the company, offering the opportunity to shape the direction of accessibility initiatives and make a significant impact on millions of users. The Senior Accessibility Engineer will collaborate with the UX Paper Cuts team, Design Systems team, designers, and frontend engineers across GitLab.
Role involves:
- Implementing accessibility solutions and fixing bugs using semantic HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Conducting code reviews for accessibility compliance and providing actionable feedback.
- Providing basic accessibility training and guidance to UX and development teams.
- Leading the implementation of complex accessibility solutions and architectural decisions.
- Developing accessibility roadmaps and implementation strategies.
- Conducting automated and manual accessibility testing.
- Creating and maintaining accessibility documentation.
- Maintaining an Accessibility Conformance Report.
- Mentoring other engineers on accessibility best practices.
- Identifying and implementing process improvements for accessibility testing and development.
Requirements:
- Interest in digital accessibility.
- Basic understanding of design and UX.
- Strong understanding of WCAG, Section 508, and EN 301 549 guidelines and accessibility standards.
- Comprehensive experience with assistive technologies.
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Experience with automated accessibility testing tools and methodologies.
- Experience conducting accessibility audits.
- Ability to use GitLab.
- Strong communication skills.
- Comfort working in an agile environment.
