Junior Software Development Engineer - Backend, Trust and Safety (@Remote, Chile and Colombia)

Job Description

OfferUp is seeking a Junior Software Development Engineer to join their Trust and Safety team. This is a remote position open to candidates in Chile and Colombia. The engineer will be responsible for owning features from concept to completion, including writing well-architected code, analyzing metrics, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The role involves building scalable systems to detect and prevent fraud, and continuously improving engineering and operational excellence.Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement new features.
• Analyze attacker techniques and apply solutions to detect and stop them.
• Drive engineering and operational excellence.
• Develop scalable classifiers and tools using machine learning and data analysis.
• Identify when to replace or rebuild legacy systems.
• Participate in on-call rotations.
• Support and mentor other engineers.

Requirements:

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 1 year in web services.
• Experience performing data analysis.
• Strong coding skills in Java, Python, Scala, Golang, or similar languages.
• Knowledge of object-oriented design and microservices architecture.
• BS or MS in Computer Science or related field.
• Excellent communication skills in English.
