Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Merchant Risk Intelligence & Platform)

Job Description

Affirm is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their Merchant Risk Intelligence & Platform (MRIP) team. This role is focused on building functionalities that automate merchant risk assessment throughout their lifecycle within Affirm. The MRIP team is responsible for building the backend platform and enabling ML engineers to build models that help automate decision-making, ensuring risk is properly managed and the merchant experience is smooth.Responsibilities:

• Owning and delivering quarterly goals for the team.
• Collaborating with product management, design, and analytics teams.
• Identifying and solving project, process, technology, or business issues.
• Supporting the operations and availability of team artifacts.
• Fostering a culture of quality and ownership.
• Developing talent on the team through feedback and guidance.

Requirements:

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Experience developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Prior experience with monitoring and alerting systems (sentry.io, rollbar, chronosphere, kibana).
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and architectural decisions.
• Experience defining a technical plan for the delivery of a significant feature or system component.
• Proficiency in making significant changes in a large code base.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
