Software Engineer II, Backend (Merchant Risk Intelligence & Platform)

Affirm is seeking a Software Engineer II, Backend to join their Merchant Risk Intelligence & Platform (MRIP) team. This role is focused on building functionalities that automate merchant risk assessment throughout their lifecycle within Affirm. The engineer will work closely with ML engineers to ensure an effective and accurate decision-making process for merchants. Affirm is a remote-first company.

Responsibilities:

• Break down larger projects into individual tasks.
• Collaborate with product management, design & analytics.
• Support the operations and availability of team artifacts.
• Contribute to team community through growth and development activities.
• Work with ML engineers.

Requirements:

• 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience designing, developing, and launching APIs at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Ability to translate problems into solutions interacting with multiple software components.
• Comfortable navigating large codebases and debugging.
• Strong communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
