Job Description
Affirm is seeking a Software Engineer II, Backend to join their Merchant Risk Intelligence & Platform (MRIP) team. This role is focused on building functionalities that automate merchant risk assessment throughout their lifecycle within Affirm. The MRIP team builds the necessary backend platform and combines it with the work of multiple cross-functional teams to enable ML engineers to build models that help automate decision-making. This position is remote in Canada.
What this role involves:
- Breaking down larger projects into individual tasks and delivering them in multiple phases.
- Collaborating with product management, design, and analytics teams.
- Supporting the operations and availability of the team’s artifacts.
- Contributing to a sense of community on the team.
- Working with ML engineers to ensure effective decision-making for merchants.
What the candidate needs to have:
- 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
- Familiarity with distributed systems and technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
- Experience designing, developing, and launching APIs at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
- Mastery of translating business scenarios into solutions that interact with multiple software components.
- Comfort navigating a large codebase and debugging others' code.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
