Job Description
Affirm is seeking a Staff Security Engineer to lead the Incident Response function within the Security Operations & Resilience Engineering organization. This role involves driving remediation and response efforts company-wide in a cloud infrastructure environment. The ideal candidate will act as Incident Commander during security incidents, leading the team to resolution in high-pressure situations. They should be comfortable communicating with stakeholders across various levels and functions.
Role involves:
- Owning and driving the roadmap for the Security Incident Response Program.
- Leading security incident response efforts across the organization.
- Serving as incident commander in large-scale security incidents.
- Providing briefings and status updates to technical and executive leadership.
- Leading the development of security incident response playbooks and processes.
- Contributing to engineering projects to improve monitoring, detection, and response programs.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams across Affirm and leading key security projects.
- Providing mentorship and training to junior security team members.
Requirements:
- 7+ years of experience with Detection and Response engineering, with a focus on leading security incidents and crises.
- Experience leading investigations and incidents including containment actions and forensics when needed in an engineering focused cloud heavy environment (AWS, EKS experience strongly preferred).
- Ability to handle high-pressure, complex, and ambiguous situations.
- Strong communication skills to engage with various levels of stakeholders.
- Ability to proactively take the initiative and rally stakeholders.
- Strong ability to analyze and correlate information from multiple sources.
- Demonstrated experience in common Sec Ops tooling (SIEM, EDR, MDR).
- Experience in programming to create automations (Python & Terraform IAC preferred).
- Ability to partner with Legal & Compliance teams for incident reporting.
- Ability to lead large projects and work with cross-functional stakeholders.
