Manager, Site Reliability Engineering

Job Description

Algolia is seeking a Manager, Site Reliability Engineering to lead the Fleet team within the Production Engineering team. This role is based in Paris, France. The manager will be responsible for the provisioning and global reliability of Algolia's Search Products at scale. The ideal candidate will create solutions to optimize the Search Products availability and costs, aligning with customer, Product, and engineering team needs.

The Manager will lead a team of experienced Individual Contributors, focusing on operating and scaling the Search fleet, reducing incidents, running the in-house Edge Load Balancer, building a robust backup and restore system, and managing FinOps responsibilities.

Role involves:

• Collaborating with senior leadership to define technical direction and strategy.
• Building relationships with stakeholders across the organization.
• Providing leadership and mentorship to team members.
• Evaluating and improving the performance of the SRE team.
• Establishing and enforcing engineering processes and best practices.
• Defining and maintaining service level agreements (SLAs) and key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Leading cross-functional efforts to resolve complex technical issues.
• Designing and implementing monitoring, alerting, and metrics systems.
• Collaborating with other technical teams to automate processes.
• Managing the budget for the team.
• Documenting team projects and processes.

Requirements:

• 4+ years of engineering management experience.
• Fluency in Agile methodology.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Experience managing a large team.
• Knowledge of application deployment and automation.
• Knowledge of DevOps principles and CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of Configuration Management and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Chef, Terraform).
• Knowledge of at least one programming language (Python, Golang, Ruby).
• Full professional English proficiency.
• Ability to make decisions and take ownership.
