Job Description

Oportun is seeking a Senior Manager, Data Science to join its team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about broadening financial inclusion by untapping insights from non-traditional data. This role involves developing and enhancing Oportun’s core intellectual property used in scoring risk for underbanked consumers.He/She will be responsible for developing data products and machine learning models used in Risk, Fraud, Collections, and portfolio management. The Senior Manager will also lead initiatives to drive business value from start to finish, including project planning, communication, and stakeholder management.Responsibilities:

• Develop data products and machine learning models.
• Build accurate and automated monitoring tools.
• Build model deployment platform.
• Build end-to-end reusable pipelines.
• Lead initiatives to drive business value.
• Lead discussions with Compliance, Bank Partners, and Model Risk Management teams.
• Lead, coach and partner with the DS and non-DS team to deliver results

Requirements:

• Master’s degree or PhD in a quantitative discipline (or Bachelor’s with significant experience).
• 8+ years of experience leveraging machine learning techniques.
• 8+ years of hands-on experience with data extraction, cleaning, and analysis.
• Proficient in SQL, Spark SQL, and/or Hive.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong stakeholder and project management skills.
• Comfortable in a high-growth, fast-paced environment.
