Senior Privacy Counsel

Job Description

Vimeo is seeking a Senior Privacy Counsel to lead its global privacy function. This role involves ensuring compliance with data protection regulations and supporting business growth. The Senior Privacy Counsel will be the company’s primary expert on global privacy laws, developing and executing strategies that balance compliance with business objectives. They will work closely with security, engineering, product, and compliance teams to embed privacy-by-design principles across Vimeo’s operations and manage a Privacy Program Manager to support privacy initiatives.Role involves:

• Developing, implementing, and overseeing Vimeo’s privacy program.
• Providing expert legal guidance on privacy and data protection matters.
• Drafting and updating internal and external privacy policies.
• Collaborating with product, engineering, and security teams.
• Developing and leading privacy training programs.
• Partnering with security and compliance teams to manage data breaches.
• Staying up-to-date with global privacy laws and regulations.
• Engaging with regulators and advocating for Vimeo’s interests.
• Supervising and providing guidance to the Privacy Program Manager.

Requirements:

• JD or equivalent legal degree with strong academic credentials.
• Active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
• 8+ years of legal experience with a focus on privacy, data protection, and technology law.
• In-depth knowledge of global privacy laws and regulations, including GDPR, CCPA.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to lead initiatives and manage cross-functional projects.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• CIPP/E, CIPP/US, or similar certification preferred.
• Prior management experience preferred.
