Senior Fluid Systems Engineer I, pipeline

Job Description

Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior Fluid Systems Engineer I to lead the design, build, and test of fluid systems for the Neutron launch vehicle. This role involves collaborating with a team of engineers to transform vehicle-level requirements into a fluid network that enables aircraft-like reusability and reliability.

• Performing trade studies and sizing to define key elements of system architecture.
• Providing guidance and mentorship to teammates on fluid system design, test, and operations best practices.
• Leading key fluid system design, manufacturing, and test reviews.
• Coordinating with component design, GSE, propulsion, GNC, and other teams to solve multidisciplinary issues.
• Creating and maintaining analytical models to characterize and predict system behavior.
• Championing efforts to create and maintain piping and instrumentation diagrams, system CAD, production drawings, and system test and operations procedures.
• Performing planning, analysis, and troubleshooting of system performance during real-time operations and post-test data reviews.
• Managing projects, including development schedules, vendor management, and budgeting.
• Creating tools to enhance the team’s analysis capabilities, streamline workflow, and optimize launch operations.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of experience designing, operating, and troubleshooting fluids systems.
• Strong engineering fundamentals in fluid dynamics and thermodynamics.
• Solid understanding of fluid components such as valves, pressure vessels, flex elements, and fittings.
• Working knowledge of manufacturing, fabrication, integration processes, and quality control relevant to fluid components.
