Job Description
Rocket Lab is seeking a Materials Lab Technician II to support the development of Additive Manufacturing and Composite materials at their Engine Development Center in Long Beach, California. This role is crucial for supporting Additive and Composites processes related to the Neutron vehicle and Archimedes engines. The Materials Lab Technician II will report to the Manager of Additive Manufacturing and Production Additive Manufacturing organization.

What This Role Involves:
  • Preparing, testing, evaluating, and certifying metallurgical tests.
  • Operating testing equipment such as Instron tensile frames, metallography testing equipment, XRF analysis, SEM analysis, and hardness testing equipment.
  • Checking test samples for dimensions using precision measuring equipment.
  • Maintaining quality standards and adhering to specifications.
  • Interfacing with engineering to coordinate testing and test results.
  • Maintaining a lab database with test results.
  • Maintaining a clean work environment.
  • Participating in internal & external audits.
  • Running lab heat treat oven for test coupons and some production parts.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
  • 5+ years of metallurgical lab experience or related functions.
  • Familiarity with drawings, testing specifications, hand tools, bandsaw, cutoff machine, etc.
  • Working knowledge of alloys, e.g., Ni, Cu, and Ti alloys.
  • Experience testing carbon composite materials.
