Job Description
AirTrunk is seeking a Services and Commissioning Manager to join their team in Tokyo. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful commissioning of AirTrunk's data centers, working closely with the Development team and various stakeholders.
The Services and Commissioning Manager will be responsible for managing personnel and logistics, collaborating with independent commissioning managers, general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and AirTrunk operations and engineering consultants. They will also develop budget estimates, review commissioning scripts, provide technical feedback, and resolve technical issues during commissioning.
Responsibilities:
- Managing personnel and logistic functions related to successful commissioning of AirTrunk data centres
- Ensuring the successful completion of commissioning activities for AirTrunk’s customers in alignment with external and internal client requirements and technical standards.
- Collaborating with AirTrunk appointed independent commissioning managers, general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and AirTrunk operations and engineering consultants to plan, implement and finish all commissioning activities on time and within approved budget
- Developing budget estimates for commissioning related consultants, equipment, and software systems
- Ensuring commissioning activities are detailed on approved database systems; hire and engage subcontractors to achieve this goal
- Reviewing and providing direction to CxA’s, vendors and contractors with respect to Cx script completeness, validity and purpose
- Reviewing and providing feedback to engineers and designers on the technical aspects of design with a focus on time and cost required to commission optimally
- Acting as the decision maker on behalf of AirTrunk to coordinate and resolve technical issues during commissioning
- Analysing, reviewing and introducing commissioning processes and policies to reduce cost and time of the Cx process while maintaining the standard required by clients and operations staff
- Reporting back to management on the status of commissioning activities
- Attending commissioning, construction and design meetings as required
- Motivating, encouraging, communicating, educating and training all members of the commissioning team
- Collaborating with client Cx Managers to ensure their satisfaction, confidence, and trust in the technical aspects of the AirTrunk product
- Promptly responding to requests from clients, specifically the client Cx manager, for technical information regarding the AirTrunk product. Provide incident reports, root cause analysis and explanatory narratives in response to these questions
- Collaborating with and coordinate commissioning activities with AirTrunk operations team
- Ensuring submission of MOPs and SWMS on a timely basis in line with the Cx schedule
- Establishing and coordinating the Cx schedule with GC, vendors, contractors and CxA to ensure completion prior to RFS date
- Contributing to technical initiatives and projects conducted by AirTrunk including DCS design and trouble shooting; equipment design and commissioning and construction processes and policy.
Requirements:
- Ideally, a degree/diploma in electrical or mechanical engineering and certified in project management
- 3+ years' experience in commissioning of data centres or other critical environment facilities in Japan
- Strong technical and commercial problem-solving and decision making skills
- Experience in successfully managing vendors, consultants and contractors including training, developing, setting clear expectations, and handling potential issues
- Excellent time and site management skills together with high attention to detail
- Fluent in English and Japanese
- Exceptionally flexible and forward-thinking as you have to be ready for a continuous change in direction
