Job Description

Sony Interactive Entertainment is seeking a Principal Graphics Software Engineer to join their team in San Mateo, CA. In this role, the candidate will be a lead member of the team, partnering with Product Management, Architects, Engineering, and Game Studios. The Principal Software Engineer will drive the graphics platform direction for the next-generation mobile application, applying industry-standard best practices and implementation to fluid performant experiences with maximum extensivity.

Role involves:

  • Leading, designing, building, and integrating graphics frameworks to streamline development across mobile teams.
  • Designing and developing code and frameworks that bridge between Android and the underlying GPU drivers and hardware.
  • Collaborating with global game studios, UI designers, and product managers to translate requirements into actionable work packages.
  • Representing the team in technical forums by presenting designs and sharing knowledge.
  • Identifying performance bottlenecks and crafting solutions to improve customer delight.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in developing AAA and mobile games or graphics platforms.
  • Profound understanding of state-of-the-art graphics and lighting techniques.
  • Solid understanding of 3D mathematics, rendering algorithms, and shader development.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of APIs such as DirectX 11/12 and, OpenGL 4.x and Vulkan.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead real-time rendering, GPU and CPU profiling, and optimizing GPU shaders.
  • Expert in C++ and other applicable programming and shader language.
  • Expert in multi-threaded programming in Unreal and other game engines.
  • Experience taking a project from scoping requirements to the actual launch of a product at global scale.
  • Ability to build strong partnerships with architects and engineers to influence technology decisions.
  • Experience documenting designs, implementation, and tests for international teams.
  • Experience with open-source contributions, especially library development.
