Environment Artist (Contract)

Job Description

Sony Santa Monica Studio is seeking an Environment Artist to join their award-winning team. This contract role offers the opportunity to contribute to the artistic vision and development of a product, focusing on creating environments and level assets. The Environment Artist will collaborate with various team members, including the Art Director, Designers, Technical Artists, Animators, Programmers, and Producers, to achieve artistic goals while considering design and technological aspects.

Responsibilities:

• Content creation: 3D modeling/sculpting, 2D texture map painting, material setup/UV layout, and LOD creation.
• Level art workflow: assembly, set dressing, and asset composition across levels.
• Develop knowledge of the art production pipeline and engine features.
• Maintain artistic goals and vision throughout the game development cycle.
• Maintain a strong knowledge of the game's design.
• Facilitate requests or info needs regarding environment/level art creation.
• Actively improve skill set and abilities.
• Use time management and prioritization skills.
• Communicate updates and escalate concerns.

Requirements:

• 3+ years of industry or related experience.
• Strong traditional fine art skills.
• Proficient in Maya, Zbrush, Substance Designer, and Substance Painter.
• Familiarity with video game product development.
• Excellent communication, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under minimal direction.
• B.A. in fine arts or relevant curriculum or equivalent skillset.
