Director of Engineering, Infrastructure

Job Description

Carta is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead its Infrastructure Engineering team. This role is based in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. The Director will be responsible for providing secure, reliable, scalable, and performant infrastructure to Carta’s customers and developers. The ideal candidate will be a technical leader with experience in cloud computing, networking, systems design and architecture, storage, and real-time data telemetry.Carta's Infrastructure Engineering team is looking for a leader to mentor and empower a diverse team of engineers, balancing technical direction with collaboration and people development. The Director will own the security, availability, scalability, and reliability of Carta's cloud infrastructure, partnering with peer organizations to meet their infrastructure needs. They will also define metrics, tools, and practices to ensure the team delivers significant business impact.Responsibilities:

• Mentor, grow, and empower the engineering team.
• Ensure the security, availability, scalability, and reliability of Carta's cloud infrastructure.
• Partner with other teams to meet their infrastructure needs.
• Build a culture of execution excellence.
• Provide and seek regular feedback from the team.
• Align technical direction with overall engineering strategy.
• Hire top talent to grow Carta’s infrastructure.

Requirements:

• Experience delivering large-scale projects in compute, networking, storage, or software engineering.
• Track record of leading and mentoring geographically distributed teams.
• Experience writing production-quality code in Python, Java, or Go.
• Ability to empower teams and resolve disagreements.
• Experience building services from inception to production.
• Deep understanding of Linux, AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Endorsement of infrastructure as code and passion for automation.
• Strong understanding of cloud security best practices.
