Principal Cloud & Database Engineer (PostgreSQL, AWS)

Job Description

Tripadvisor is seeking a Principal Cloud & Database Engineer to join their Site Operations team. This role is crucial for maintaining and enhancing the core systems that power the Tripadvisor website, spanning both private data centers and AWS environments. The ideal candidate will be a force multiplier, delivering tooling and infrastructure that impacts day-to-day operations and contributes to the future evolution of Tripadvisor's infrastructure.

The Principal Cloud & Database Engineer will be involved in designing, implementing, and testing system migrations, with a focus on on-prem to AWS/cloud-native migrations, as well as on-prem data centers to alternate AWS-based data center migrations. They will also play a major role in evolving the infrastructure as code and configuration management used to manage existing on-prem databases and transition them to the cloud. This role requires significant leadership and communication experience.

What this role involves:

• Designing, implementing, and maintaining automated infrastructure provisioning and configuration management.
• Setting up monitoring and logging systems to proactively detect and address potential issues.
• Managing hundreds of on-prem PostgreSQL databases, including performance tuning, backups, and disaster recovery.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve development and deployment processes.
• Assisting in identifying and resolving operational issues and participating in on-call rotations.

Requirements:

• 10 years of expertise in database operations with a focus on building and maintaining scalable infrastructures around data.
• 5 years of working directly with PostgreSQL at a Senior level is essential.
• 5 years of experience in leadership and communicating with the business.
• Strong programming experience with Python is essential.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment.
• Solid understanding of AWS-based data management technologies.
• Experience in configuration management using Ansible.
• Experience with infrastructure as code using CDK.
