Job Description
Anthropic is seeking a Research Engineer to join their team and focus on pretraining data research. Anthropic's mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems, ensuring AI is safe and beneficial for users and society. The ideal candidate will be results-oriented, flexible, and passionate about the societal impacts of their work.
Responsibilities:
- Understanding pretraining data trends and scaling laws
- Optimizing pretraining data mixes
- Investigating potential new sources of data
- Building research tools to better understand experimental results
- Figuring out how to process and use pretraining data most effectively
Requirements:
- Significant software engineering experience
- Results-oriented with a bias towards flexibility and impact
- Comfortable with a very empirical research environment
- Care about the societal impacts of your work
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- High performance, large-scale ML systems
- Language modeling with transformers
- Large-scale ETL
- Designing ML experiments and researching ML fundamentals
- Inspecting and iterating on data (e.g. ML competitions, Quantitative Finance)
