Job Description

The New York Times is seeking an experienced and ambitious editor to lead the Business desk's investigations team. This team focuses on producing impactful accountability journalism. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in editing, managing reporters, and overseeing complex investigations.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of reporters and handle staffing decisions.
  • Generate ideas for news and enterprise stories.
  • Help determine investigative coverage and assign/edit stories.
  • Identify topics, advise on source relationships, vet documents, and overcome reporting roadblocks.
  • Coordinate with photo, graphic, and data journalists, as well as editors and reporters on other desks.
  • Support journalistic independence and the mission to seek the truth.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of journalistic and management experience.
  • Ability to make sound judgments about quality and process.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience on coverage spanning subjects and desks.
  • Impeccable ethics and commitment to open-minded journalism.
