Job Description

The New York Times is seeking a Digital Design Developer to join its Opinion desk's design team. This role involves translating digital designs into compelling mobile-first visual storytelling products through code, with a focus on UX performance and experimentation. The developer will collaborate with editors, artists, and photo/art directors, coordinating multiple assets and contributors to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities:

  • Convey interactive story ideas with wireframes and prototypes.
  • Develop immersive storytelling experiences using audio, video, text, and images.
  • Develop templates for recurring editorial features.
  • Optimize projects for performance across browsers and devices.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of digital design experience.
  • Strong visual and interactive design skills.
  • Experience with iterative wireframing in Figma.
  • Expertise in client-side Web development (JavaScript, HTML, CSS).
  • Experience designing and implementing digital design systems.
  • Experience working with video, audio, and graphics.
