Job Description
The New York Times is seeking a Digital Design Developer to join its Opinion desk's design team. This role involves translating digital designs into compelling mobile-first visual storytelling products through code, with a focus on UX performance and experimentation. The developer will collaborate with editors, artists, and photo/art directors, coordinating multiple assets and contributors to meet deadlines.
Responsibilities:
- Convey interactive story ideas with wireframes and prototypes.
- Develop immersive storytelling experiences using audio, video, text, and images.
- Develop templates for recurring editorial features.
- Optimize projects for performance across browsers and devices.
- Collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of digital design experience.
- Strong visual and interactive design skills.
- Experience with iterative wireframing in Figma.
- Expertise in client-side Web development (JavaScript, HTML, CSS).
- Experience designing and implementing digital design systems.
- Experience working with video, audio, and graphics.
