Job Description

The New York Times is looking for an Economy Editor to contribute to their coverage of the American economy and the effects of policy changes on workers and businesses. The role involves managing news and enterprise content across various formats.

The editor will be responsible for:

  • Organizing coverage of major data releases.
  • Planning features to explain the economy's performance.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to cover global developments.
  • Managing a team of reporters.
  • Conceptualizing stories and managing live blogs.
  • Ensuring clear and engaging reporting.

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • 5+ years’ experience editing news coverage on economics, finance, or corporate news.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop reporters and manage teams.
  • Experience working in deadline-driven newsrooms.
  • Strong editing skills and news judgment.
  • A strong understanding of Times style and standards (preferred).
  • 10+ years as a reporter and editor (preferred).
  • A willingness to be flexible as the newsroom’s needs evolve (preferred).

The New York Times offers:

  • A hybrid work arrangement based in New York City.
  • An annual base pay range between $170,000 - $200,000 USD.
