Job Description

The New York Times is seeking a Graphics/Multimedia Editor to join their Graphics department. This role involves reporting, writing, designing, and coding graphics and multimedia stories, including statistical visualizations, video, photography, and animation. The editor will conceptualize new reporting lines, analyze data, and collaborate with journalists to create original visual journalism.

Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize, sketch, and execute new visual approaches to news coverage.
  • Design and build interactive visualizations and other visual formats for the web.
  • Report and conduct data analysis to cover news stories with a visual emphasis.
  • Collaborate with other journalists to create ambitious journalism.
  • Bring a curious mindset and a willingness to find timely solutions.
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of journalistic independence.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Expertise in development of interactive graphics or Web sites, including HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Skill in interface design and information graphic design.
  • Extensive experience reporting and producing visual journalism or other visual media.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to change.
  • Curiosity and interest in the news.
  • Experience working collaboratively with members of a mixed-media team.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to make quick decisions under deadlines.
