The New York Times is seeking a Senior Editor, Weekend News Manager for Photo, a versatile and experienced journalist with excellent news judgment and strong management skills. This role involves supervising a team of photo editors, coordinating coverage, and serving as a liaison to the senior editor for news during weekends. The Senior Editor will oversee live visual coverage, guiding the commissioning and editing for visual presentations connected to weekend news events.
Responsibilities include: - Supervising desk editors, photographers, and photo editors during weekends.
- Assigning and editing visual presentations for weekend news events.
- Coordinating homepage and live presentation of breaking news.
- Preparing homepage presentations for major enterprise and weekend posters.
- Collaborating with stakeholders on breaking news stories.
- Supervising and giving feedback on multimedia pieces.
- Undertaking editorial work as needed.
Requirements include: - 7+ years of experience as a visual editor or journalist.
- Management experience.
- Extensive experience assigning and directing photographers.
- Familiarity with photo, audio, and video editing.
- Knowledge of image handling and editing software.
- A history of innovation in visual journalism.
