The New York Times is seeking a Staff Editor to join the Opinion Special Projects team. This team focuses on ambitious collaborations, covering diverse subjects and story forms, always driven by first-class arguments. The ideal candidate will think flexibly and creatively, sourcing fresh ideas and research to shape into new story forms. The role requires toggling between big-picture thinking and attention to detail, supporting senior editors in conceiving and executing projects, and managing the workflow.

Responsibilities:

  • Source and commission high-impact enterprise ideas.
  • Contribute to the creative vision for storytelling.
  • Help track workflow for ongoing projects.
  • Edit pieces and write display copy.
  • Research and report for projects.
  • Coordinate with the audience team.
  • Demonstrate commitment to journalistic independence.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience editing at a digital or daily publication.
  • Experience in multimedia journalism.
  • Excellent editorial judgment and line editing skills.
  • Proven track record of commissioning memorable journalism.
