Job Description
The New York Times is seeking a Domestic Correspondent for its Opinion department. This role involves reporting and writing editorials on a range of public policy issues, requiring expertise in areas such as U.S. politics, global affairs, technology, and the law. The ideal candidate will be skilled at storytelling, possess a clear and persuasive writing style, and demonstrate curiosity and openness to diverse perspectives.
Responsibilities:
- Write editorials on a wide range of topics
- Develop ideas for editorials, including those others will write
- Participate in regular group meetings to shape overall approach of editorials
- Contribute to other parts of the Opinion report, including essays, video, audio and graphics.
- Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
Requirements:
- 5+ years experience publishing highly ambitious journalism
- Demonstrated ability to write clearly and creatively about complex topics
- Experience developing, pitching, and helping to execute high-impact enterprise or narrative-driven pieces, including collaboration with multimedia teams, including design, photo, graphics, audio and video, on how to best tell these stories
- Experience working simultaneously on long-term projects and tight news deadlines
- Experience maintaining the highest standards for fact checking, accuracy and fairness, and working with the research team
- Capacity to perform related work as assigned
