Job Description
The New York Times is seeking a Video Journalist specializing in Cinematography to contribute to news and enterprise coverage. The role involves creating visual content for various platforms, including short-form videos and interactive articles. The ideal candidate is a seasoned reporter and producer who can thrive under pressure and manage multiple projects efficiently.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to breaking news with fresh visual ideas.
- Pitch coverage opportunities and participate in team planning.
- Carry out all aspects of video production, including research, reporting, writing, shooting, producing, editing, and publishing.
- Plan shoots with other video journalists, overseeing camera, lensing, and lighting equipment.
- Lead cinematography and visual production, maintaining New York Times aesthetic standards.
- Work with Operations staff for efficient footage transfer and workflow.
- Produce big projects in various formats, collaborating with other desks.
- Demonstrate support for journalistic independence and the mission to seek the truth.
Requirements:
- 4+ years of cinematography and/or video journalism experience.
- Experience with all aspects of video production, including pitching, writing, and reporting.
- Expert knowledge of camera equipment and software, including lighting and sound principles.
- Knowledge of current events and experience covering breaking news.
- Proven history of access to strong sources and unique visual access.
