Job Description
The New York Times is seeking an Android Engineer to join its Games mobile team. This role is based in NYC Headquarters and requires a hybrid work arrangement, with an expectation of being in the office two days a week. The Android Engineer will be responsible for guiding product development and building Android features end-to-end. The engineer will design, develop, and test new features using Kotlin and modern Android development tools. They will also optimize the platform for stability by writing quality code and partnering with the QA team.
Responsibilities: - Work closely with other functions and other engineers to guide product development and build small to medium sized Android features end-to-end
- Design, develop, and test new features using Kotlin and other modern Android development tools and frameworks
- Optimize the platform to ensure our app is stable by writing quality code and partnering with the QA team to test and fix bugs
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal NYTimes services, as well as external APIs
- Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
Requirements: - 3+ years of professional software development experience working with Android (Kotlin), including writing unit tests, networking, data persistence, and UI
- Experience with modern Android technologies such as Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, Dagger/Hilt, MVVM/MVI, and Room
- Experience with layouts, themes, styles, views and other Android UI concepts
- Familiarity with working with product teams to translate product goals into quality shippable code
