Engineering Manager, Games - Backend

Job Description

The New York Times is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Games API Team. This role involves managing a team of engineers responsible for the services, APIs, and tooling that power the NYT Games experience. The Engineering Manager will collaborate with various departments to maintain and enhance the digital puzzle game platform.Role involves:

• Managing a diverse team of software engineers.
• Fostering a collaborative and productive environment.
• Developing team members through coaching and mentoring.
• Working with product owners to deliver a compelling roadmap.
• Establishing and advocating for engineering best practices.

Requirements:

• 2+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience with service technologies.
• Understanding of API design principles (REST, GraphQL, gRPC).
• Experience with cloud technologies like AWS or GCP.
• Expertise in coaching engineers and facilitating continuous improvement.
• Familiarity with managing a backlog of competing opportunities.
