Job Description

2K Games is seeking a Senior Technical Animator to join their 2K Sports Lab in Vancouver, BC. This role involves working closely with the animation and engineering teams to push creative vision and technical boundaries. The Senior Technical Animator will focus on run-time animation, content authoring, creating tools, and pipeline development, with an emphasis on efficient workflows.

The ideal candidate will have a keen artistic eye, a passion for their craft, and the ability to support the team. They should be able to understand how things work and communicate findings clearly, with a thirst for knowledge and a desire to mentor others.

Role involves:

  • Creating and maintaining rigs in Maya.
  • Setting up automated pipelines for retargeting animation.
  • Implementing and setting up assets in the game engine.
  • Troubleshooting animation issues.
  • Creating and improving tools and pipelines in Maya.
  • Optimizing assets for run-time performance.
  • Refining workflows and content authoring processes.
  • Mentoring and teaching others.
  • Creating documentation for information sharing.

Requirements:

  • Good understanding of animation principles.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and kinesiology.
  • Experience with a game engine (e.g., Unreal, Unity).
  • Experience creating animator-friendly rigs in Maya and Motion Builder.
  • Tools development experience in Python, PySide2, or PyQt5.
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming.
  • Experience with collaborative processes.
  • Experience optimizing assets for a game engine.
