Principal Engineer

Job Description

Intercom is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the definition and execution of key strategic initiatives. The Principal Engineer will work autonomously and be accountable for strategic execution within the engineering organization. They will build both back-end and front-end systems, collaborating closely with designers, product managers, researchers, and data analysts. This role involves coaching and mentoring other engineers and partnering with Group Engineering Managers on technical strategy and leadership.Intercom is an AI Customer Service company with a mission to help businesses provide incredible customer experiences.What this role involves:

• Driving key strategic projects within the R&D organization.
• Providing assessments of project progress, risks, and challenges to engineering leadership.
• Contributing to Intercom's technical architecture.
• Contributing to all phases of software development, including ideation, prototyping, design, and implementation.
• Playing an active role in hiring, mentoring, and career development of other engineers.
• Raising the bar for technical standards, performance, reliability, and operational excellence.

Requirements:

• Experience building a SaaS product.
• Demonstrated impact on product and teams.
• Deep knowledge of a high-level programming language.
• Experience with distributed systems.
• 2+ years of experience as a technical leader.
• Experience collaborating with technical leaders, product teams, and designers.
