Senior Core Technologies Engineer

Job Description

Intercom, the AI Customer Service company, is seeking a Senior Core Technologies Engineer to join their team in Dublin, Ireland. The successful candidate will be responsible for enabling the core technologies that Intercom is built on, with a focus on building and scaling systems such as MySQL, ElasticSearch, and ingestion pipelines. This role involves owning the operation of these systems from low-level systems engineering to all parts of Intercom's Rails and Python monoliths.

The Senior Engineer will collaborate with domain experts to shape the technical direction and infrastructure, autonomously executing high-impact projects. They will value agility and simplicity while prioritizing scalability and uptime, contributing to all phases of software development from ideation to implementation. This role also includes mentoring other engineers and raising the bar for technical standards across Intercom.

What this role involves:

• Collaborating with domain experts to shape technical direction and infrastructure.
• Owning aspects of Intercom's infrastructure and autonomously executing high impact projects.
• Contributing to all phases of software development including ideation, prototyping, design and implementation.
• Playing an active role in the hiring, mentoring, and career development of other engineers.
• Raising the bar for technical standards, performance, reliability, and operational excellence across Intercom.

Requirements:

• Excellent pragmatic engineering skills.
• 5+ years experience in a production environment, with contributions to the design and architecture of distributed systems.
• Expertise in backend technologies such as MySQL, Elasticsearch, Memcached, as well as Linux.
• Experience scaling a SaaS product.
• Proficiency with standard software engineering methodologies.
• Understanding of modern web apps and distributed systems.
• Experience as a technical lead for large multi quarter projects and programs including defining the roadmap.
• Ability to learn quickly, iterate, unblock yourself, and persist until the right problem is solved.
