Intern (European Competition practice)

Job Description

Charles River Associates (CRA) is seeking an Intern to join their European Competition practice in Brussels. This paid internship mirrors the full-time analyst role, providing a comprehensive understanding of working as an economist at CRA. The internship typically lasts three to six months, with flexible start dates throughout the year.

As an intern, the individual will work closely with senior staff on diverse projects, contributing to various aspects of competition policy and regulation. This includes assisting firms and their legal advisors in competition proceedings, such as mergers and acquisitions, abuse of dominance allegations, and cartel investigations.

Responsibilities include:

• Identifying potential issues and conducting analyses to illustrate economic arguments.
• Assembling compelling evidence from data and research to support expert opinions.
• Programming, building models, and performing regression analyses using statistical analysis programs (e.g., Stata, Python, R).
• Assisting in the development and presentation of client deliverables, including expert reports and white papers.
• Communicating complicated economic concepts to internal teams.
• Ensuring the integrity and accuracy of analyses and opinions.

Requirements:

• Master's or PhD/DPhil candidate in economics with a strong foundation in microeconomics, preferably with a specialization in industrial economics and/or econometrics.
• Fluency in English.
• High degree of numeracy and data manipulation skills.
• Some research experience.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated initiative and leadership.
• Strong teamwork and collaboration capabilities.
• Excellent time management and task prioritization skills.
• Clear interest in consulting.
