Job Description
Charles River Associates (CRA) is seeking a Principal/Cost of Capital Expert to join its Energy practice. The ideal candidate will be a thought leader in the utility cost of capital and general ratemaking space, providing expertise on cost of capital-related issues and leading engagements for clients seeking to update cost of capital in rate case proceedings. The role involves serving as an expert witness, maintaining client relationships, identifying new opportunities, and overseeing the client engagement process.Role involves:
  • Conducting research and using software to analyze data.
  • Providing expertise on cost of capital issues.
  • Leading and managing client engagements.
  • Serving as an expert witness.
  • Maintaining client relationships and developing new ones.
  • Identifying new opportunities and defining products/services.
  • Overseeing the client engagement process.
  • Delivering presentations and reports.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering, or Accounting; Master’s degree and/or CFA preferred.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in an electric and/or natural gas rate design role.
  • 5+ years of professional experience directly managing or leading the work of others.
  • Experience testifying as an expert witness before regulatory commissions.
  • Extensive experience managing project teams and clients.
  • Demonstrated success in selling client engagements and maintaining relationships.
  • Established relationships with executives and decision-makers in the utility industry.
  • Experience developing, working with, and interpreting complex regulatory and financial models.
  • Experience supporting client ROE proposals using models like DCF, Risk Premium, and CAPM.
  • Excellent presentation skills and writing ability.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and mentor junior staff.
