Sr. Applied Scientist

Job Description

Twitch is seeking a Senior Applied Scientist to join its Community team. In this role, the Applied Scientist will focus on solving challenging problems related to user and content safety. The Senior Applied Scientist will use machine learning to develop data products that address issues such as harassment, spam, and illegal content. They will lead high-profile projects, utilizing a variety of ML tools to handle diverse data types, including user behavior, metadata, and user-generated content.

The Senior Applied Scientist will collaborate with scientists, engineers, and product stakeholders to develop and deploy models that enhance the Twitch experience for creators and viewers. This position reports to the Senior Applied Science Manager and is based in San Francisco, CA.

Responsibilities:

• Build machine learning products to protect Twitch and its users from abusive behavior.
• Propose, design, and oversee execution for high-impact projects.
• Collaborate with Community Health's engineering and product management team to productionize models.
• Help drive science culture on the team by staying up to date and experimenting with new techniques.

Requirements:

• 6+ years of hands-on industry experience building models for NLP, deep learning, bot detection, anomaly detection or in another practical ML domain.
• 6+ years experience writing high quality code to ship those models in production systems.
• Experience owning projects that involve numerous scientists and engineers.
• Experience working with non-technical stakeholders.
• Proficiency with ML techniques and best practices for risk or abuse detection.
• PhD / MSc Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, or similar quantitative field OR equivalent hands on experience.
• Expertise with: Python and SQL, modern open source ML libraries (Pytorch, Tensorflow, etc.), developing software in AWS or similar cloud-computing services.
