General Manager Primary Logistics

Takealot.com, a leading South African online retailer, is seeking a highly talented General Manager to join their Takealot Delivery team in Johannesburg DC. This role reports to the Head of Operations and is responsible for regional fleet operations management. The incumbent will manage and execute fleet operations pertaining to Takealot Distribution Centres (DC), third-party logistics service providers in the region, and branch operations. They will also implement new services, ensure infrastructure scalability, manage the transport fleet, and provide leadership to operational staff.

Responsibilities:

• Day-to-day operational management in the region
• Ensuring a 1st-time delivery percentage of 98% or higher
• Managing, leading, and growing the operational support team
• Managing 3PL partners in the region
• Intervening and managing franchises/branches
• Working closely with support teams in Tech, compliance, and finance
• Effective fleet management
• Growing Takealot Logistics reach through new branches and product mix
• Championing and communicating new initiatives
• Adding value to business supply chain issues
• Maintaining accurate reporting
• Reviewing logistical processes for efficiency improvements
• Interpreting merchandise seasonal plans
• Monitoring demand and supply planning
• Cascading strategy to the team
• Identifying and resolving issues
• Taking accountability for technology and processes
• Managing and monitoring logistics adherence to best practices
• Leading logistics performance projects
• Driving change and implementing best practices
• Defining, training, and improving internal processes
• Continuously monitoring service levels
• Overseeing the logistics budget and contracts
• Overseeing data capturing and invoicing accuracy
• Ensuring proper fleet utilization and maintenance
• Ensuring the development and adherence to vehicle policy
• Providing operational input on all operational facets

• Post graduate qualification in any of the streams listed above

• Advance diploma in Retail Management Principles
