Job Description

xAI is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Rust/C++ Backend Engineer to join their team responsible for the backend services powering grok.com and its API. The ideal candidate will possess expert knowledge in either Rust or C++, with experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining reliable and horizontally scalable distributed systems. They should also have knowledge of service observability and reliability best practices, as well as experience in operating commonly used databases such as PostgreSQL, Clickhouse, and CockroachDB.This role involves:

• Designing, implementing, and maintaining reliable and horizontally scalable distributed systems.
• Working with databases such as PostgreSQL, Clickhouse, and CockroachDB.
• Writing highly scalable and reliable services that can efficiently process tens of thousands of queries per second.

Requirements for this role include:

• Expert knowledge of either Rust or C++.
• Experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining reliable and horizontally scalable distributed systems.
• Knowledge of service observability and reliability best practices.
• Experience in operating commonly used databases such as PostgreSQL, Clickhouse, and CockroachDB.

The team is primarily based in London, with a growing presence in Palo Alto. While the company usually works from the office 5 days a week, they allow for work-from-home days when required.
