Job Description
Sotheby's is seeking a Specialist in Books and Manuscripts to join their New York team. The Specialist will be responsible for all aspects of the business, including sourcing, estimating, and cataloguing property for auction and private sales. They will also assist with the coordination of auctions in New York, and global sale series that include London and Paris as needed. The ideal candidate will develop key client relationships and participate in business getting.

Responsibilities include:
  • Participating in the sale process, including cataloguing, condition reports, and sale term negotiation.
  • Developing new and managing existing client contacts.
  • Identifying and maintaining relationships with clients, dealers, and collectors.
  • Engaging in insurance and fair market value appraisals.

Requirements include:
  • Bachelor’s degree required, with an advanced degree in a related field preferred.
  • Expertise in Books and Manuscripts, with a minimum of five years of experience.
  • Proficiency in a second language, particularly French, a preferred.
  • Excellent writing and organizational skills.

Sotheby's offers:
  • A proposed base salary for this position ranges from $70,000-$90,000.
