Rocket Lab is seeking a Principal Development Engineer to contribute to the development of the Neutron platform. The engineer will collaborate with structural analysts, designers, manufacturing engineers, and the prototyping team to develop and execute the design and certification strategy for mechanical structures and mechanisms across the Neutron launch vehicle. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise in metallic materials with a general understanding of elastomers and thermal protection systems.

Role Involves:

  • Assessing conceptual designs and perform system trade studies.
  • Defining and documenting material architectural decisions.
  • Designing and coordinating testing to generate material property databases.
  • Managing projects and contributing to technical decision-making.
  • Solving technical challenges and mentoring other engineers.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering.
  • 8+ year’s industry experience in the design, development, and test of material systems.
  • Experience with metallic materials, process development, and qualification.
  • Experience with composites and related materials.
  • Proven communication skills.
