Job Description
Rocket Lab is seeking a highly motivated Principal/Senior Combustion Devices Engineer to join their team in Long Beach, CA. This individual will be responsible for the development of combustion devices for the 200,000 lbf Archimedes engine, an integral part of the Neutron rocket. The engineer will take ownership of all aspects of component development, from design and analysis to manufacturing and testing, contributing to successful flights and re-flights.- Design, analyze, and perform trade studies to achieve programmatic targets.
- Define requirements, test and flight qualification plans.
- Collaborate with interface owners, such as turbomachinery and engine systems teams.
- Work with manufacturing and build engineers to design manufacturable and cost-effective parts.
- Work with test and launch teams to interpret data and provide solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent.
- For Senior Combustion Devices Engineer II: 8+ years of combustion device design experience.
- For Principal Combustion Devices Engineer: 12+ years of combustion device design experience.
- In-depth knowledge of combustion and fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and structural mechanics.
- Fundamental understanding of design principles and manufacturing methods.
- Master’s or a PhD.
- Advanced proficiency in NX, ANSYS Mechanical, StarCCM, MATLAB and GD&T.
- Experience with designing reusable, propulsively landing rocket engines.
