Job Description
Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior Fluid Systems Engineer II to lead the design, build, and test of fluid systems for the Neutron launch vehicle. This role involves collaborating with a team of engineers to transform vehicle-level requirements into a fluid network that enables aircraft-like reusability and reliability. The Senior Fluid Systems Engineer II will perform trade studies, provide guidance to teammates, lead key system reviews, coordinate with various teams, create analytical models, maintain documentation, and troubleshoot system performance.

What this role involves:
  • Performing trade studies and sizing to define key elements of system architecture.
  • Providing guidance and mentorship to teammates on fluid system design, test & operations best practices.
  • Leading key fluid system design, manufacturing and test reviews.
  • Coordinating with component design, GSE, propulsion, GNC and other interrelated teams to solve multidisciplinary issues.
  • Creating and maintaining analytical models that characterize and predict system behavior.
  • Championing efforts to create and maintain piping and instrumentation diagrams, system CAD, production drawings, and system test and operations procedures.
  • Performing planning, analysis, and troubleshooting of system performance.
  • Project management including development schedules, vendor management, budgeting, etc.
  • Creating tools to enhance the team’s analysis capabilities, streamline workflow and optimize launch operations.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant engineering discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience designing, operating, troubleshooting fluids systems.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals in fluid dynamics and thermodynamics.
  • Solid understanding of fluid components such as valves, pressure vessels, flex elements & fittings.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing, fabrication, integration processes & quality control relevant to fluid components.
