Data Engineering Manager

Job Description

AB InBev Growth Group is seeking a Data Engineering Manager to lead the Data Intelligence Platform team. The manager will be responsible for the execution and delivery of data engineering initiatives, aligning with strategic direction. They will manage a team of Data Engineers and Technical Leads, ensuring the successful architecture, construction, and optimization of data pipelines and overall data architecture.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical foundation in data engineering, coupled with proven leadership and management experience. They should be a strategic thinker with the ability to navigate complex data requirements across diverse teams, systems, and products.

What this role involves:

• Providing strategic leadership and direction for the Data Engineering team.
• Managing, mentoring, and developing a team of Data Engineers and Technical Leads.
• Overseeing the design, development, and implementation of scalable and efficient data pipelines and data architecture.
• Ensuring the team understands business demands and translates them into efficient technical solutions.
• Facilitating the end-to-end execution of data engineering projects.
• Overseeing the optimization of existing data pipelines and data flow for performance and reliability.
• Driving the development and implementation of data collection strategies across various sources.
• Fostering strong collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Guiding the building of data transformations, data structures, metadata, dependency, and workload management.
• Championing and enforcing data quality and data governance processes.
• Identifying, designing, and implementing internal process improvements.
• Overseeing the troubleshooting and resolution of data-related issues.
• Staying up-to-date with the latest data engineering technologies and best practices.
• Contributing to the strategic design and evolution of our data warehouse and data lake architecture.
• Facilitating technical discussions and decision-making within the team.
• Managing team resources, budget, and project timelines effectively.
• Reporting on the progress and performance of the data engineering team and initiatives to stakeholders.

Requirements:

• University degree in courses related to computing.
• Proven experience as a Data Engineer, with significant experience in technical leadership and team management.
• Strong proficiency in programming languages relevant to data engineering (Python/pyspark).
• Experience with Databricks.
• Experience with data warehousing solutions (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery).
• Experience with ETL/ELT tools and frameworks.
• Solid understanding of database technologies (both SQL and NoSQL).
• Experience with cloud platforms and their data services (AWS, Azure).
• Familiarity with data pipeline and workflow management tools (Apache Airflow, Databricks Workflow).
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
• A proactive and self-directed approach to work.
• A passion for building and optimizing data systems.
