Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior Fluids and Mechanical Test Engineer to join their Space Systems Propulsion team in Auckland, New Zealand. This role involves developing new systems and components related to fluid components and system testing, innovating existing designs, and solving challenges during development, qualification, and production. The Senior Development Engineer will also help set best practices, provide guidance, training, and mentorship to other team members.

The role requires expertise in test planning, setup, instrumentation, execution, analysis, and reporting, along with a systems engineering mindset and strong communication skills, as well as review and signoff on test plans and test reports, as well as risk-based decision making to guide the team through development challenges.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with a team to develop new systems and components
  • Innovate on existing designs
  • Identify and solve challenges during development, qualification, and production
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to other team members
  • Review and signoff on test plans and test reports

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in propulsion system or component development, or equivalent high performance field
  • Hands on experience with pressurized gas or fluid system testing, instrumentation, and test control
  • Expertise in LabView and National Instruments data acquisition systems, or equivalent and eagerness to learn NI
  • Comfortable working with high levels of ambiguity; resourcefully making decisions using engineering first principles, available information, and risk
