Rocket Lab is seeking a Spacecraft Operations Engineer to join its growing Space Systems team in Auckland, New Zealand. The successful candidate will support the global Spacecraft Operations team, maintaining the health and safety of Rocket Lab's spacecraft fleet and ensuring mission objectives are met.

The role involves collaborating with talented individuals, pushing boundaries, and reshaping possibilities. Rocket Lab is known for its pioneering work in launch and space systems, supporting crucial space missions globally.

What this role involves:

  • Maintaining the health and safety of Rocket Lab’s growing fleet of spacecraft.
  • Ensuring that mission objectives and SLAs are met.
  • Operating diverse missions on Rocket Lab's PHOTON satellite bus.
  • Collaborating with spacecraft design, AIT, flight software, Propulsion, GNC, mission design, and SW development teams.
  • Improving both the ground and satellite-based capabilities over time.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • 3+ years of aerospace/satellite development experience OR a Master’s degree (or greater) with applied space internships and 1+ year of applied space operations work experience, OR 2+ years of applied space operations work experience
  • Direct experience in space mission design, satellite subsystems, ground systems, spacecraft command control, or spacecraft operations.
  • Understanding of the space environment, orbital mechanics, and rigid body dynamics.
  • Software development skills (Python/Ruby/C/C++).
  • Knowledge of spacecraft subsystems (attitude control, power systems, communications, etc.).
